Charlene Reviews ... DAWN OVER THE HORIZON

When we meet young Faith and Sonny, they are struggling to find their way with two very different challenges. Faith is a compulsive eater and Sonny is autistic. Outcasts in their schools, and without friends, they cling to each other; the only ones that understand their battles. As they grow and make changes, they find themselves, and eventually all they dreamed of becomes a reality.

Dawn Over The Horizon is a cheerful, redemptive tale of overcoming the odds and embracing life. While I applaud the happy ending, everything fell right into place for both characters in ways that were too good to be true. Faith had just a bit too much confidence for a girl that struggled with body image, and I felt the realities of bariatric surgery and its aftermath may have been embellished a tad too much. The characters also seemed too "perfect" in their responses to the difficulties they faced. There were also several instances of grammatical/proofing errors, and the sex scenes seemed almost redundant.

Having shed some negative light on it, Dawn Over The Horizon is still an enjoyable book that keeps you rooting for the characters and celebrating their accomplishments. If you are looking for a light, feel-good story and aren’t bothered by the less than realistic storyline, it does leave you feeling more optimistic for all the underdogs of the world.
