Mandy Reviews ... No One Knows

It's been a long time since I've read a novel in a day. Hell, it's been a long time since I've WANTED to read a novel in a day. Y'all ... this novel is so good, I didn't want to put it down. Between every load of laundry, I was picking this book up to read more and more until, finally, I was finished.

Aubrey and Josh have known each other since they were kids. They're the ultimate love story: friends as kids, growing into best friends as pre-teens, becoming lovers in their teens, and marrying in their early 20s. What could be more perfect?

Well, how about the fact that Aubrey lost her parents when she was four and became a ward of the state bouncing around foster homes. Or, what about Josh's mother, Daisy, being snooty enough that she didn't want her son consorting with the "trash." Daisy did everything she could to keep the two apart but, as we all know, the more you try to keep kids apart the more they'll want to be together.

After Aubrey and Josh have been married three years, Josh disappears and Aubrey becomes a murder suspect. Because the prosecution had no concrete evidence to convict Aubrey, the jury had no choice but to acquit her of Joshua's death - leaving her reputation tarnished and her peers questioning the validity of her behavior and personality.

This novel starts off making you feel sorry for Aubrey as she reads the states declaration of Josh's death. You feel angry and annoyed with Daisy as she determines to contest the insurance money owed to Aubrey. As the novel progresses, though, you start to doubt what you think you know. Should you pity Aubrey? Does she really deserve your empathy? Is Josh, somehow, alive? If so, how? What really happened on that night of Josh's disappearance?

Finally, as the novel ends, your feelings for Aubrey are skeptical. Is she really as remorseful and innocent as she wants people to believe? Is she really as happy in her new life as she seems? What's really going on in Aubrey's head? Who IS Aubrey?

Even after I've finished the novel, I'm still left wondering that very thing. I highly recommend this novel to you fellow thriller lovers out there. You won't regret it for a second.
