Erica Sparks is no stranger to danger. She's seen things on her job that most couldn't handle, but she is a determined reporter and the next presidential election is shaping up to be much more than any reporter could bargain for. Something sinister is at work and Erica will stop at nothing to get to the truth. The deeper she gets into the investigation, the more danger she puts herself, and her daughter, in.
I am not a fan of politics, especially given the current election year. Add to that, conspiracy theory, Al-Quaeda, foreign policy (all topics that make my eyes glaze over) and I never expected to enjoy this novel. Ms. Wiehl, using her own experiences, brings a unique perspective to Erica Spark's character, using the backdrop of New York and its bustle and raw beauty, as well as vignettes of the danger to reporters in Iraq. This is a suspense-filled story that may (or may not) be far-fetched, but is definitely entertaining to the very, surprising end.
After reading The Candidate, I intend to read Ms. Wiehl's other books, as well. She has an engaging writing style that draws the reader in and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
5 out of 5 stars!
